WhatsApp is currently working on a new update, which would be bringing password-protected, encrypted chat backups for iCloud and Google Drive, according to a recent report.
Although, your chats are end-to-end encrypted and safe on the phone of yours and the users you’re talking to but it’s not the case for online backup chats and this concern has been raised by many privacy activists.
WABetaInfo-WhatsApp features tracker, has reported on Monday that:
“To prevent unauthorized access to your iCloud Drive backup, you can set a password that will be used to encrypt future backups,”
“This password will be required when you restore from the backup.”
This update will likely to be available for both Google Drive and iCloud users. The feature tracker has also confirmed that the recovery of forgotten password would not be available. Therefore, the user would have to enter phone number to confirm password protection.
